Luke, a Devon ox, was evidently surprised by the photo (that preceded this painting), taken by my daughter where she works on a farm in western Massachusetts. The distortion of the photo heightened the bizarre aspect of this creature as was caught after slurping a lot of water. He had spent the morning yoked to his partner, pulling a plow, so he was really thirsty. This kicks off my next series, "Organic Farms en Plein Air in Oils," even though it was too cold, for me, to work plein air. All the rest will be plein air. It's good sometimes to laugh and paint at the same time.
